A HOME IN THE WOODS
This house was designed for a young family. The family wanted the house to feel private but still very open, letting in the surrounding nature and an abundance of light. They wanted definition between the public and private spaces in the home, but not so much that they felt separated. This project used a variety of materials, with each complementing and balancing the other.
The design was sensitive to the site in a variety of ways. An old logging trail was used for the driveway in order to avoid removing many trees or grading the hill. The house was also repositioned during the initial stakeout to accommodate a 150-year-old vibrant tree at the front of the home.
